Bath EntertainmentFor a small town, Bath has an impressively cosmopolitan atmosphere and a reasonable range of things to do. As well as a leading theatre, cinemas, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs, the town also offers football and rugby matches and a number of festivals. Bath CinemasThe cinema scene in Bath was transformed in 2004, with the closure of two cinemas (including the atmospheric old Beau Nash), and the opening of a new multiplex in the city centre. The new 8-screen Odeon, which opened in October 2004, provides up-to-date cinema facilities that have long been lacking. The town's alternative venue is the Little Theatre, a small cinema showing arty and foreign releases. It offers discounts on Mondays and to members. For a wider choice of films, there are also large modern multiscreen cinemas a short drive away on the outskirts of Bristol.
Theatre RoyalBath's historic theatre is called the Theatre Royal and is one of the oldest in Britain. The theatre plays host to major touring productions, with the programme changing every week. Drama, classics, comedy, Christmas pantomime and concerts all feature. Bath FestivalsBath hosts a number of medium-sized festivals throughout the year, covering a range of arts and interests. The town's leading festival is the International Music Festival, a fairly highbrow event which nevertheless opens with a massive party attended by a huge number of locals. Other highlights include the winter Literary Festival. NightclubsMoles has been Bath's leading nightclub for years, and offers both DJs and regular live music. Past gigs on the small stage have included early appearances by Suede and Oasis. |
