Rocks East WoodlandRocks East Woodland is an unusual tourist attraction in South Gloucestershire, just five miles from Bath. The site covers 100 acres and consists of attractive mixed woodland, criss-crossed by signposted trails. Information leaflets help the visitor to find their way along the woodland paths, identifying the various trees, plants, birds and animals to be found in the woods. From an educational point of view, the site represents great learning opportunities for budding naturalists and visitors of all ages. As well as the charms of nature, there is a Victorian woodland garden to be explored, a grotto and a contemporary sculpture trail. Various guided tours and activities are also organised. A walk through the trees at Rocks East Woodland is an enjoyable and refreshing outdoors experience, providing fresh air and exercise as well as plenty of interesting sights. Admission to the woods is fairly cheap (£2.50 for adults) and families will find this a healthy and appealing way to spend a couple of hours. Rocks East Woodland is located at Ashwicke, north-east of Bath, towards Colerne. If you are driving, follow the A4 out of Bath to Batheaston, then take Bannerdown Road and look for signs to the woodland. The 228 bus (Bath-Colerne) operated by First runs six times a day from Bath bus station to Hunters Hall, close to Rocks East Woodland. The woodland is open 10am-5pm Monday-Friday and 11am-5pm at weekends and bank holidays. |
